Healthcare (Therapeutic Services-Patient Care) Pathway

The Healthcare Science courses will enable students to receive initial exposure to Healthcare Science careers as well as employability, communication and the technical skills necessary in the healthcare industry. Introduction to Healthcare focuses on the past, present, and future of health care as well as concepts of law and ethics, workplace safety and infection control, health and wellness, and lifespan development. The Essentials of Healthcare course focuses on anatomy, physiology, and disease. The prevention of disease, diagnosis, and treatment along with medical terminology are studied in this course. This course helps students make connections between medical procedures and the pathophysiology of diseases and disorders.

Students have the option of enrolling in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course or Patient Care Fundamentals after completion of Introduction to Healthcare and Essentials of Healthcare.

The following courses are offered: 

*Special note for credit per State Board Rule 160-4-.2: Course meets fourth science requirement; Students who earn 1 unit of credit for this course shall also receive 1 unit of credit for Human Anatomy and Physiology, course number 26.07300 beginning for students enrolled in the 2014-15 school year and subsequent years

Second-year students wanting to complete this pathway have 3 options:

  1. Enroll in CNA Dual Enrollment Program through Southeastern Technical College on the SECCA campus.
  2. Enroll in Patient Care Fundamentals taught on the campus of Vidalia High School and at SECCA.
